I'm Reading ... with Fran Roberts

Welcome to a brand-new blog series from Reaktion Books. “I’m Reading” gives you the insight into what the team are reading each month and why. First up, we have the newest member of the Reaktion team: Fran Roberts. Fran is our marketing manager and has been working in publishing for eight years. You can follow her on Twitter @CatwomanFran.

What book are you reading?

I’m currently reading Miracles of Our Own Making: A Brief History of Paganism by Liz Williams, which comes out in April.

What’s it about?

It does what it says on the tin really! Miracles tells the story of magic and paganism in the British Isles from pre-history to the modern day.

What’s so good about it?

It’s a fascinating insight into how paganism transformed into what it is today and how different influences have created a “new” form of paganism for our era. I also have a bit of a soft spot for the Celts, so it was great to learn a bit about their beliefs and practices.

Where do you read?

It tends to be on the sofa in my living room. I have a cosy, well-lit spot that I can curl up in with a good cup of tea.

What’s next on your reading list?

The next Reaktion book that I’m reading is Wanderers: A History of Women Walking by Kerri Andrews. I’m incredibly fortunate to read this one ahead of publication [Wanderers comes out this Autumn]! I’m also re-reading Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel ahead of reading the final book in the series, which has just come out.
